ABOUT

Why We're Here.

We believe Moss Point’s history of athletic excellence should be documented and celebrated. We have tried to accomplish that by recording and archiving sports stories we have come across, and by recognizing individuals and teams for their outstanding achievements. Our focus is on former Moss Point High School and Magnolia High School athletes, coaches, administrators and supporters who excelled in their respective roles.

Narrative

The Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame (MPSHOF) was organized in 2022, under the leadership of former Tigers head football coach and athletic director, Jerry Alexander, and former Magnolia High School basketball star, Houston Cunningham. Jerry recruited Moss Point native and retired Chevron public affairs official, Steve Renfroe, to help get the organization off the ground. The United Way for Jackson, George and Greene Counties agreed to accept the MPSHOF as a donor-advised fund and to manage its financial resources. The Cirlot Agency and its founder and CEO, Liza Cirlot Looser, a Moss Point graduate, agreed to partner with the MPSHOF to assist with developing a new website. In early 2023, Renfroe began capturing oral histories by recording video interviews of those knowledgeable about Moss Point athletics and, in June of 2023, the Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame announced its inaugural class of honorees.
