Guidelines

Moss Point Sports Hall Of Fame

The Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame will recognize and honor those Moss Point High School (MPHS) and Magnolia High School (MHS) athletes, coaches, administrators, and supporters who excelled in their respective roles and who helped to bring honor, recognition, distinction, and excellence to Moss Point by their conduct both on and off the field or court of competition. This recognition will help maintain the spirit, pride and sense of community as well as serving as a historical account of the great athletic traditions of both Moss Point and Magnolia High Schools. In the spirit of fair play, the number of honorees for Magnolia High and Moss Point High will be balanced for those years when there were two high schools in Moss Point.
The Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee will be appointed by the Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame Executive Committee. The Selection Committee will report each class of honorees to the Executive Committee which is responsible for final review and approval of the Selection Committee’s report.

Student athletes are eligible for nomination ten years after their high school graduation or ten years after their final year of competition. They must have attended or graduated from MPHS/MHS and be a person of good character. Such athletes must have competed in a state association-sanctioned varsity sport and must have excelled in such sport. Among the accomplishments considered will be individual (All District, All Region, All State, or All American) and team accolades, individual school or team records held, and an impact on teams and overall athletic programs at MPHS/MHS during their era. An athlete’s post high school accomplishments may be taken into consideration with the major focus still being their high school accomplishments.

Nominations are also open to coaches and administrators who must have participated with distinction and or made significant contributions to athletics at MPHS/MHS as evidenced, for example, by the success of their teams and the acknowledgement of their student athletes. Such coaches or administrators shall be eligible for nomination beginning five years after they have left MPHS/MHS for any reason, or in special circumstances as determined by the Selection Committee.

The Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee may choose to select teams as honorees of the Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame. To be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame, teams must have distinguished themselves above and beyond the normal standards. These may include undefeated seasons, league championships, district championships, regional championships, and state tournament appearances.

The Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall not select more than one team in any given year or shall choose not to select any team. The Selection Committee will seek to balance the number of awards for teams of MHS and MPHS during the time there were two high schools.

As determined by the Executive Committee, a special recognition category shall exist for those individuals who may not have participated in a sport at MPHS/MHS, but who made significant contributions by their service and dedication to the program.

The nomination forms will be available on the Moss Point Sports Hall of Fame website and other locations as determined by the Executive Committee.
