Molden was well known for his outstanding football skills as a defensive tackle for the Monarchs. He attended Jackson State College (now Jackson State University) on a football scholarship and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1965 NFL draft, and also by the Houston Oilers in the American Football League (now American Football Conference) in that same year. He played in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Los Angeles Rams and the New York Giants.
