An All-State football center, Farragut led the 1945 Tigers as team captain to an undefeated season and was selected team captain by his teammates again the following season. Farragut’s high school coach Ken Swayze moved to coach at Ole Miss, and Dynamite followed him there as one of legendary Rebels head football coach John Vaught’s first recruits. Farragut was the Rebels’ starting center and team captain in 1950, and played in the College All-Star Game in Chicago following the season.
Farragut was drafted in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1951, and started for four seasons at center with Philadelphia. He earned a Pro Bowl berth in 1953.
Farragut was inducted into the Ole Miss Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1992, the same year he earned the NFL’s Alumni Career Achievement Award.
