A track and field star, Faggard was a high school state champion in the high and low hurdles for the years 1941, 1942 and 1943, and led the Tiger team that won the overall state championship in track in 1942. He also ran the 100- and 220-yard dashes, and ran the anchor legs on the 440, 880 and mile relay teams. He also played football, basketball, and baseball for the Tigers.
Faggard ran the hurdles for coach “Doc” Knight at Ole Miss for three years before deciding to try baseball his final year in Oxford. He and his brothers furthered their diamond skills after World War II and college by playing in the local men’s fast-pitch softball league, and in 1953, won the state championship in fast-pitch playing for an Ingalls Shipyard squad that went on to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the Softball World Series.
As an adult, Faggard taught and coached in Moss Point, including stints as junior high football coach and head high school baseball coach, and coached fellow MPSHOF inaugural class inductees, Eddie Khayat and Robert Khayat.
