Moss Point Coach and Athletic Director (Retired)

Jerry Alexander was the head football coach and athletic director for the Moss Point School District from 1991 until his retirement in 2008. He was a defensive coordinator for the Tigers’ 1983 5-A state championship football team and, as head coach and athletic director, led Moss Point to four more 5-A championships in 1991, 1996, 1997, and 2000. Jerry’s first teaching and coaching job was at Murphy High School in Mobile, Ala., where he taught history and coached football and basketball. From there, he coached football and basketball at Gautier Middle School. Jerry went to Moss Point in 1975 as a driver education and history teacher and an assistant football and track coach. He graduated from Seneca High School in South Carolina, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Delta State University, a Master of Science degree in education and traffic education from the University of South Alabama, and a Master of Education degree in administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. Jerry has been named coach of the year numerous times and was inducted into the Delta State University Coaches Hall of Fame. Jerry and his wife, Phyllis, reside in Moss Point.
