A three-sport Tiger letterman, Eddie Khayat went on to be a multi-sport standout at Millsaps College, Perkinston Junior College (now Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College) and Tulane University. He was the Mississippi Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion (novice class) in boxing in 1953-54. Khayat then excelled in a 10-year NFL career with Washington, Philadelphia and Boston. He was a starting defensive tackle for the 1960 NFL Champion Philadelphia Eagles.
Khayat also coached professional football for 35 years including a stint as the Eagles’ head coach in the early 1970s. He is a member of six Halls of Fame, among them the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and the Tulane Hall of Fame, and was named a member of the Tulane Green Wave All Century Team.
